Don't Ask, Don't Tell

Today was an historic day and another step closer to equal rights for all Americans. During today's signing of the repeal of DADT by President Obama, he gave a speech. My favorite part of the speech was when he said,

And he knew that valor and sacrifice are no more limited by sexual orientation than they are by race or by gender or by religion or by creed

That is just an excerpt from the speech about an extremely brave soldier that risked his own life during the brutal Battle of the Bulge to save a fellow soldier that had been left for dead.

Grab a box of tissues then go to the White House web site and read the blog entry "The President Signs Repeal of 'Don't Ask Don't Tell': 'Out of Many, We Are One'"

Thank you President Obama.

Lt. Dan Choi on DADT

It is also good to hear that Lt. Choi is out of the hospital.

Freepers are losing it.

Following today's historic vote, 65-31, to finally repeal the discriminatory Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy I knew the reaction from the Right would be historic as well. You know I had to take a peek at the Free Republic web site for a good laugh and they didn't disappoint me with their comments.

They've refered to the Chief of Naval Operations as a traitor and one of Satan’s butt wipers among a few other choice words. What happened to the Bush era meme of it being un-American to not support our Troops and The Commander in Chief? Bigotry is blinding.

They are also on their typical RINO rant about the Eight Senate Republicans that voted for the very American concept of equality. They are all gay RINO's to them now.

Not be outdone, the Talabangelists immediately responded to today's vote by signing onto, the ironically named, Freedom Federation's letter promising to get DADT reinstated with the next Congress.

"This action will be overturned in the next Congress because it breaks the bond of trust that must exist between the military and those who command in the Pentagon and Congress. Today's vote will prove as costly to its proponents as ObamaCare was to its advocates. We promise a full mobilization of faith-based and policy organizations, veterans, and military families in the states of every Senator who voted for repeal of DADT against the advice of our service chiefs and during a time of war. Those Senators - and the Pentagon leaders responsible for this breach of trust - should understand that they will be the object of concerted political action against them."

Expect the asshattery to only escalate in the coming days, weeks and months.  Hang on kids! It's gonna be a wild ride!

Don't Ask, Don't Tell

Update: Final vote set for 3pm EST. Keep fingers crossed.

Watch it live

Repeal Wins Vote!!!

Seventeen years after DADT passed into law, the vote all but ensures that its repeal will become a reality before the end of the year. The vote passed by 63-33, with moderate GOPers like Scott Brown, Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, Olympia Snowe and voting Yes.
